Transfer Options From Barcelona Airport To Port Olimpic
By Taxi
For the quickest and most direct trip, consider booking a taxi from the airport to Port Olimpic. Taxis are available 24/7 from designated ranks located just outside the arrivals area of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Trips to central Barcelona neighborhoods like Port Olímpic cost a fixed fare of around €77 each way. There’s no need to negotiate as all licensed Barcelona taxis have meters and drivers are required to use them.
The total taxi transfer takes approximately 14 minutes in normal traffic conditions. You’ll enjoy door-to-door service directly to your hotel or accommodation in Port Olímpic without having to hassle with luggage or transfers.
They accept both cash and credit card payments.
Taxis are especially convenient for travelers with mobility issues, lots of luggage, or small children in tow.
While taxis are more expensive than public transit, taxis allow you to maximize your time in the city rather than navigating complex metro and bus systems after a long international flight. The main downside to taxis can be getting stuck in traffic during Barcelona’s peak hours from 8-10am and 5-8pm on weekdays.
By Train
The train is another public transit option offering a good compromise between cost and travel time. To get from Barcelona Airport to Port Olímpic by train, take the RENFE R2 Nord line from the Airport T2 station to Passeig de Gràcia in central Barcelona. At Passeig de Gràcia, transfer to the L4 metro line heading towards La Pau.
Trains on the RENFE R2 Nord line depart approximately every 30 minutes from the airport. Tickets cost €4.60 and can be purchased from vending machines at the station. The trip takes around 30 minutes to reach Passeig de Gràcia station in the heart of Barcelona.
From there, you’ll transfer to the L4 metro line to continue towards La Pau. Metro tickets cost €2.40 each way and can be purchased at the Passeig de Gràcia station. Trains come every 3-5 minutes so you won’t have to wait long. Exit the L4 at Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica station, just a 5 minute walk from Port Olímpic.
Total travel time by train is around 55 minutes and total cost is €7. This train and metro combination provides a nice middle ground in both cost and travel time. It also allows you to avoid Barcelona’s notorious traffic jams. Just be prepared to navigate some stairs and transfers between stations if carrying heavy luggage.
By Bus
For a cheaper but more time-consuming transfer, the bus is a good option. To get from the airport to Port Olímpic by bus, you’ll first take the Aerobús operated by AMB to Plaça de Catalunya, then transfer to a local TMB bus.
The Aerobús (A1 or A2) leaves directly from both airport terminals every 5-10 minutes, 24 hours a day. A one-way ticket costs €5.90 and can be purchased from vending machines at the designated Aerobús stops or directly from the driver if paying cash. The A1 and A2 make identical trips to Barcelona, you can take either line. The trip to Plaça de Catalunya in the city center takes approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic.
Once at Plaça Catalunya, you’ll then transfer to bus lines 36, 41, 59, D20 or V21 heading towards Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica. These local TMB buses leave every 5-20 minutes depending on the route and cost €2.50 one-way (must be purchased separately from Aerobús ticket).
Exit the bus at the Port Olímpic stop, just a quick 10 minute ride from Plaça Catalunya.
Total journey time is around 60 minutes with the cost of the Aerobús and TMB bus coming to €8.40. While not as fast as a taxi, this bus method is the cheapest option and a good choice for travelers on tight budgets or those who don’t mind some extra transit time. Just be prepared for potentially crowded buses during commuter hours.
